Steinerburg

Half an hour's walk from the village of Steinach, at the highest point in the area, overlooking a steep gorge, stands the treasure that is the Steinerburg. This huge building, whose walls were constructed from rock, dates back to the 12th century. Steinerburg, a frequently visited ruin, is set in beautiful surroundings.

The Gredhaus

By the lake you will find the most noteworthy building in Steinach, the Gredhaus, which is over 500 years old. You can tell by the look of it that this building must have played an important role in the community. It was built as a warehouse for local businessmen to store their goods and grain in and also housed a tavern. The shipping rights were acquired by the city of St.Gallen, with the intention of making Steinach the main port for the St.Gallen shoreline of the Bodensee. Today Steinach is known for its harbour and trading centre.
