The Art Exhibition Hall is on Grabenstrasse on the site of the former moat.
The upper part of the building was once a sheet metal factory specialising in wheelbarrows. In 1927 the lower floors were surfaced with concrete and used as a warehouse for finished products. In 1934 the steel framed hall and the main building were constructed as protection from the lake. The builder, Schädler, had no real purpose in mind for the Rondelle, although he had a clear vision for a lake restaurant. It was an experiment for a steel house to be constructed in prefabricated elements. Schädler picked up the idea in the USA and in 1935 patented his development of it. The economic crisis hindered mass-production, and in truth Schädler was more gifted as a builder than as a businessman. Schädler himself did the planning and construction of this building. This is the fantasy work of a gifted master metal worker with a huge love of building.
